UGC's new framework for universities to conduct exams for SWAYAM courses!

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a new framework that allows universities to conduct examinations for courses offered through the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) platform.

This initiative aims to make earning academic credits through online platforms more accessible and flexible for students. Previously, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) conducted end-term proctored examinations for SWAYAM courses.

However, under the new framework, students who complete SWAYAM courses can now choose to take their exams at their own universities. This new approach is expected to provide better support to students and increase their participation in SWAYAM courses.

Additionally, the credits earned can be transferred to the students' transcripts, making it easier for them to integrate online learning with their regular academic programs. The framework also includes provisions for re-examinations, allowing students to retake exams in subsequent semesters.

The UGC's decision to introduce this new framework follows discussions with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and is aimed at encouraging more universities to adopt the UGC Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM.

To assist universities in implementing the new framework, the UGC is providing additional documents and requiring the appointment of a Nodal Officer to manage registration, examination, and credit transfer processes for SWAYAM courses.

Best wishes.
